A design borrowed from the moon
The crescent moon — chandrakor — has appeared in Maharashtrian jewellery for generations. It shows up in naths, in haar designs, in temple jewellery, and in the bangles worn by women on auspicious occasions. It is not a decorative motif chosen for novelty. It is a shape with history, associated with grace, festivity, and the particular beauty of traditional ornament. Jijau Nath Creation's Chandrakor Bangles carry that same reference — a crescent-edged frame set entirely with clusters of white moti, worn on the wrist the way such jewellery has always been worn: for occasions that deserve something special.
What the bangles look like
The frame of each bangle follows the Chandrakor silhouette, with a scalloped outer edge of pointed projections that give the bangle its characteristic moon-arc profile. This edge is not merely decorative — it is the defining form of the design, the detail that makes these bangles recognisable as Chandrakor rather than plain kadas.
Across the entire surface of the bangle, small white moti are set in dense clusters. The gold-toned base shows through between the pearl groupings, creating a warm contrast of white and gold that reads as rich without being heavy. The overall effect is full and ornate, the kind of jewellery that photographs well and looks even better in person.
Material and making
The bangles are made on a gold-toned alloy base with a polished finish. The moti used are small, round, and uniformly set — arranged in clusters that cover the bangle's surface completely, with no bare patches or uneven sections. This kind of dense setting is time-consuming work. Each bangle is assembled by hand, which is why the placement of the moti reads as deliberate rather than mechanical.
At 150 grams for the pair, the bangles have a satisfying weight without being cumbersome. They sit on the wrist with enough presence to be felt, but not so heavily that they become uncomfortable over the course of a long day or a full wedding function.
When and how to wear them
Chandrakor bangles are occasion jewellery in the true sense. They are worn to weddings, engagements, and haldi-kumkum functions. They suit the bridal wrist as well as the wrists of the women sitting alongside her. Paired with a Paithani, a silk saree, or a heavily embroidered lehenga, they hold their own. They also work with simpler cotton sarees when the occasion calls for festive jewellery but not a full bridal set.
The white and gold combination is among the most versatile in traditional Indian jewellery — it does not compete with coloured embroidery, clash with stone work, or date quickly. These bangles will work with the clothes a woman already owns.
Packaging
The bangles arrive in a branded Jijau Nath Creation gift box with a jewellery care instruction card included. This makes them ready to give without additional wrapping — suitable for weddings, baby showers, Diwali, and other occasions where gifting a piece of handcrafted jewellery is appropriate and considered.
