Cotton is a soft, fluffy fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plant. Cotton is a natural cellulosic fiber, made up of long chains of cellulose, a carbohydrate polymer made of glucose. Cotton fibers are almost pure cellulose, but can also contain minor amounts of waxes, fats, pectins, and water.
