• Bhima Red is an attractive red onion variety developed by ICAR–Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (DOGR). It is suitable for Kharif, Late Kharif and Rabi cultivation in recommended regions.

Key Variety Characteristics

• Bulb Colour: Attractive red
• Bulb Shape: Flat-globe, symmetrical and non-splitting
• Flesh: Reddish with thin rings
• Plant Habit: Semi-erect; about 40–50 cm tall
• Maturity:105–110 days after transplanting in Kharif; 110–120 days in Late Kharif and Rabi
• Average Yield:19–21 t/ha (Kharif), 45–50 t/ha (Late Kharif), about 39 t/ha (Rabi)
• Storage: Around 30–45 days in Kharif, up to 4 months in Late Kharif and about 3 months in Rabi
• TSS:10.5–11.5° Brix
• Tolerance: Field tolerant to thrips and foliar diseases
• Special Feature: Attractive red bulbs with very low bolting; suitable for cultivation across all three seasons.
