NSC Kashi Jyoti Sponge Gourd is a high-quality, open-pollinated, dual-purpose variety developed in India, well known for its attractive light-green, smooth, cylindrical fruits weighing about 100–150 g. The fruits are suitable for tender vegetable use and also for drying to make natural sponge. This variety shows good resistance to Sponge Gourd Mosaic Virus, ensuring reliable performance and reduced crop loss. Kashi Jyoti is early and prolific, with first harvesting in about 45–50 days after sowing, and under recommended agronomic practices it produces a high yield of around 150–190 quintals per hectare, making it an excellent choice for commercial cultivation as well as home gardens.
