These mountains were formed around 150 million years ago when India separated from Africa in the late Jurassic period.The Western Ghats are what's called a biodiversity hotspot, featuring numerous species not found anywhere else on Earth.The Nilgiri Tahr, the Lion-Tailed Macaque and the Great Indian Hornbill are among the fascinating creatures found in the mountains of the Western Ghats.The Nilgiris, also known as the Blue Mountains, is an important part of Western Ghats as it forms a link between the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats.The Blue Mountains are located at the intersection of the three Southernmost states of India - Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.Once in every 12 years, a purplish-blue flower blooms in these mountains. The flower is called Kurinji, and every time it blooms, it covers these mountains in an ocean of blue. Some say, it’s because of this phenomena that Nilgiris is also called the blue mountains. Nila for blue and giri for mountains.Nestled in a faraway part of these mysterious mountains is a little hamlet called Nila Kombai. In the year that Kurinji bloomed, a spirited girl was born.
