The craft is traditionally practiced by a set of artisans called �Aryakula Kshatriya� who are said to be migrants from Rajasthan around 400 years ago. White Poniki wood has soft texture and is used to make toy birds and animals. The seasoned wood is chiselled to the required shape and joined with specially made glue with saw dust and tamarind seeds paste, to make the complete figure. The women folk paint the toys with powder colours or oil colours and vegetable dyes according to the orders received. The colour schemes and the shape of these toys are attractive and appealing to the eye and find a place in every household of Andhra Pradesh. The toys depict scenes from actual life, animals, rural folks, deities and characters from the epics. Dashavathara sets, Sree Rama Pattabhishekam sets, Rasa Leela and the Ambari elephants are among the famous items.
