This most tempting chili has an interesting story of its discovery. Once, a beautiful young married woman from Kampha Village in Ukhrul district, Manipur went out to gather firewood in the jungle. There she saw a plant bearing colourful fruits. She plucked some and showed them to her father-in-law. He tasted the fruit and said that the fruit was tasty, hot, and sweet. The fruit was named "Haathei" (chili). this chili grows over eight inches in length and is rich in calcium apart from possessing high Vitamin C; making them a fantastic source of nutrients and antioxidants. their stark colour is a result of high carotene levels, and they are excellent with non-veg foods. the uniqueness of this chili has been recognized by the state government and is GI tag awarded.
