Krantiveer Khajya Naik was a courageous tribal warrior who played a significant role in the 1857 First War of Independence. A formidable figure from the Khandesh region, he initially served under the British from 1831 to 1859, providing security to travelers along the Mumbai–Agra road.

However, Khajya Naik's loyalty turned into rebellion when he led a daring act against colonial oppression—looting the British treasury at Brijasani Ghat. In response, the British launched a ruthless campaign against him. What followed was the legendary Battle of Ambapani, where Khajya Naik and his tribal companions fiercely resisted British forces.

Despite their valiant efforts, the rebellion was brutally suppressed. Khajya Naik, along with thousands of his fellow fighters, was executed—shot to the beat of war drums. To strike fear among the tribal population, the British beheaded the martyrs and hung their heads from a tree in Dharangaon for an entire week.

Krantiveer Khajya Naik remains a symbol of tribal resistance, bravery, and the spirit of freedom—a forgotten hero whose sacrifice deserves to be remembered with honor.
