This is one of the type of Stone Pottery popularly known as Black/Stone Pottery. This product is made from a mixture of black Serpentinite stone and weathered rock. The product is Handcrafted with natural ingredients and each piece has its own unique texture. Legend claims that tea tastes better when prepared in these potteries. Locally in Manipur and Karnataka, they are revered for medicinal values.
The material used in Longpi is made from a mixture of Black Serpentinite stone and weathered rock. This is mixed in a three to one ratio. Serpentinite rock provides the necessary strength and weathered rock acts as the binding agent. The contents will be evenly heated and retain most of its nutrients as compared to steel or metallic alloy tea pots. The products after use are bio-degradable. It’s non-toxic, inert and non-reactive.
Note: Although, an artisan does take care to maintain pattern and colour scheme however to create identical products a little variation could be seen against the image shown here being hand made products.
