Black rice has a deep black color and usually turns deep purple when cooked. Manipur is famous for black rice called ‘chakhao poireiton’, a highly nutritious variety with high mineral content including iron and amino acids. Black rice contains the antioxidant anthorcyanin, the same anti-cancer compound found in blueberries.
