Our main aim is to remove the malnutrition from the kids of 6 months to 6 years, which is the most crucial stage of healthy physical development. Assam Agricultural University (AAU) with the effort of Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Home Sciences, Jorhat and with technical knowledge of our company has developed a micronutrient-fortified food in the name of Assam Mix. Focal aim of developing a weaning mix “Assam – Mix”, in the Department of Food and Nutrition, AAU was to formulate a nutrient – dense complimentary food for the infant using locally available and culturally acceptable infant food using prevalent technology for the purpose. This weaning mix was designed to reinforce with a cereal – pulse – oilseed pre-mix, following the guidelines of ICMR, New Delhi. Nutritive values of Assam Mix are almost at par with the costly commercial infant formulae available in the market. Assam Mix is a pre-cooked and easily digestible nutritious food suitable for the overall growth and development of children (6 months and above). Uniqueness of this enriched cereal is that it can be prepared in both sweet and salty ways (with milk, sugar, vegetable stock, dal, or even with washed/pureed fruits), according to the likings of the baby. This weaning mix was designed to reinforce with a cereal - pulse - oilseed pre-mix of the same texture with traditional Pithaguri. Assam Mix is extremely nutritious and digestible and is recommended for babies after 6 months of age when breast milk alone can no longer provide total cover of the infant’s growing nutritional requirements. The nutritious powder is also suitable for pregnant women, adolescent girls and people suffering from old age. On the whole anyone who is not able to get a proper diet involving all the essential nutrients can consume this healthy Assam Mix as a supplementary nutrition.
