Herbin ink is non-toxic and pH neutral, water based, flows smoothly, and uses all natural dyes.  Vert pré (Green prairie): a very fresh green for the spring season, the color of the prairie and the new grass growing right after the end of winter. J. Herbin's standard line of inks is known as "La Perle des Encres" or "The Jewel of Inks." These dye-based inks are smooth-flowing and easy to clean out of your pen, making them ideal for beginners—or if you don't always practice perfect pen hygiene. They perform well even on copy paper, without too much of the feathering or bleedthrough that often occurs with fountain pens. They are mainly composed of water, humectant to limit drying at the level of the pen and preservative to preserve their qualities over time. This natural composition is reflected in the very neutral pH of the inks. The dyes used have been specially selected to offer the richest color range on the market.
