NSC Oat Kent

Kent oats are a variety of oat that are considered a promising new choice for early grazing. Here are some characteristics of oats: 

• Plant type:-Oats are annual grasses that are grown for their grain or as forage. They have a fibrous root system and upright, smooth, hollow culms.
• Plant height :- Oat plants can grow up to 1.8 meters tall. 
• Leaves:- Oat leaves are wider than other small grains, and grow upwards from the upper part of the stem. They are 15 to 40 centimeters long and 5 to 15 millimeters wide, with rough surfaces that taper to a point.
• Uses:-Oat forage is used for livestock feeding, and can be grazed, cut-and-carried, made into hay, silage, or balage. Oats are also a major cereal grain worldwide, and are used as both food and feed.
• Nutritional value:-Oats are low in fat and simple sugars, and have a low glycemic index. They contain about 55% slow-digesting complex carbohydrates.
