Ipomoea Morning Glory Blue is a vining plant known for showy, trumpet-shaped blue flowers against white throats, heart-shaped green leaves with ability to climb and low-maintenance nature.

🌱 Growing conditions:

  • Sunlight: Requires full sun for best growth.
  • Soil: Prefers moist, well-draining soil, but is adaptable and can grow in poor soil conditions.
  • Germination: Nicking the hard seed coat lightly with a file or sandpaper, then soaking the seeds in warm water overnight before planting helps improve germination rates.
  • Watering: Generally low-maintenance, but can benefit from consistent watering, especially during dry spells.
  • Growth Habit: It is an annual in colder climates but can be a perennial in warmer regions. The flowers open in the morning and close in the afternoon.

✂️ Maintenance:

  • Pruning: Pruning would control the size and shape of plant, and also promote more prolific blooming.
  • Deadheading: Regularly removing spent flowers would encourage continuous blooming.
  • Fertilizing: Fertilizing monthly with a balanced, low-nitrogen fertilizer would avoid excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers. If blooms are lacking, a high-phosphorus fertilizer may help.
  • Pest control: Monitor for pests such as aphids and spider mites. Control infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
  • Support: Provide a trellis, fence, or other structure for the vines to climb, as they are twining climbers.

Uses: Ideal for covering fences, walls, and arbors, and can also be grown in hanging baskets or containers, also attracts butterflies and other pollinators.

  • Caution: Can be invasive in some regions and is considered a noxious weed in certain areas. The seeds contain LSA (lysergic acid amide), a compound that can be toxic or psychoactive.
