Soil:  Areca Palms prefer soft sandy soil.The soil should be well draining, moisture retaining and nutritios. You can add sand or perlite for drainage, this will ensure that the palms are not overwatered.You should also add cocopeat for moisture retention and vermicompost for nutrition. 33% sand, 33% cocopeat and 33% vermicompost will make a great soil mix for palms.

Water:  Palms do not like being overwatered. So never let your palm’s root ball sit in water.Water the palms only when the top 2 inches of the soil is dry. Make sure that the bottom trays (if any) do not hold water as it leads to root rot.

Placement & Sunlight: This plant requires adequate sunlight. While growing palms indoors, make sure you keep them near a window so they receive bright indirect sunlight and good air circulation. Lack of sunlight and ventilation often are the most common causes of palms dying.

Fertilization: Once every month, add a handful of compost / vermicompost to the palms. This will give them adequate nutrition. Do ensure to not add any fertilizer when the plants are dormant, e.g. during extreme winters in Northern India.
