He identified the role and importance of space technology in a nation's development, and thus the Indian Space Research Organisation, formed in 1969, provided the necessary direction to function as an agent of development. Since then, ISRO has achieved remarkable achievements from the very first completely designed and fabricated spacecraft Aryabhatta to Chandrayan and to the recent Mangalyaan.
